Knowing where to start

You know strength matters. But where do you start?

You might have heard about the importance of strength and balance as you get older, from your GP, a friend, or simply because you want to keep doing the things you enjoy.

But knowing strength training is good for you and knowing what to actually do can be two different things.

Strength for Life gives you a personalised exercise program within a supervised group, so you have guidance while still working at your own pace.

Why a class works

  • Your exercises are tailored to you.
  • I’m there to guide you and check your technique.
  • Regular class times help movement become part of your routine.

The program

What Strength for Life is

Strength for Life is a strength and balance program for older adults, run by COTA WA.

You start with a GP referral and an Initial Assessment. From there, I create a program based on your starting point and abilities.

  • GP-referred. You begin with your doctor’s referral.
  • Personalised to you. Your program starts from your Initial Assessment and is adapted to your abilities.
  • Supervised. I’m on the gym floor throughout the class to guide you and check your technique.
  • Progressed with you. As you get stronger and more confident, we can gradually progress your exercises and resistance.

Beyond the exercise

More than an hour in the gym

A regular class can give your week a little structure, some time for yourself and strength that supports life outside the gym.

  • A regular routineSame days and times each week can help movement become part of your routine.
  • ConnectionTrain alongside others, have a chat and enjoy being part of a supportive group.
  • Strength for everyday lifeBuild strength for the things that matter, from carrying the shopping to getting up from the floor.
  • Balance & confidenceWork on balance and coordination to support the way you move through everyday life.

Your instructor

Hi, I’m Alex.

I’m a qualified Personal Trainer and Strength for Life Tier 2 Instructor with COTA WA.

I run the Strength for Life classes at PrimeFit and get to know the people I work with: your starting point, your goals and anything we need to consider when you exercise.

My approach is simple: meet you where you are, help you build strength and confidence, and progress when you’re ready.

For me, strength isn’t just about what you can lift in the gym. It’s about helping you keep doing more of what matters to you outside of it.

Questions you might have

Do I need to be fit to join?

Not at all. We start where you are, and your program is tailored to your abilities and goals.

What if I can’t keep up?

There’s no keeping up! Everyone works through their own program at their own pace, with me there to guide you.

Can I join if I have an injury or health condition?

Possibly. Let your GP know when completing your referral and we’ll also talk about it at your Initial Assessment. If anything needs to be adapted, we can work from there.

What happens during a class?

We start with a group warm-up, then you work through your own program with my guidance, before finishing together with a cool-down.
